Josh Vlaanderen – Tri-radience

My design is simply based on creating negative and positive spaces for light. Through my design development I looked at ways light could overlap to create a tessellated pattern. I also looked for ideas in the build environment around me where negative and positive spaces for light were already present. My final design came from the same principle as a high rise apartment building where each balcony receives its own portion of light. My Lamp however works in the opposite manner as the light source comes from within the structure, protruding out through each crack and radiating from each platform. During the day time where the lamp is turned off it acts as a fantastic piece of sculptural artwork displaying Formica’s unique high pressure laminate ‘Carrera Marble’ to each external face.
